Amaya “Papaya” Espinal and Bryan Arenales were voted winners of Peacock’s “Love Island USA” Season 7 in the July 13 finale, becoming the first Latino couple to claim the reality-dating franchise’s U.S. title. The pair met halfway through the six-week series during the Casa Amor twist and quickly became fan favorites after Arenales publicly defended Espinal in the “Stand on Business” challenge. The victory comes with a $100,000 cash prize, which the couple told multiple outlets they will split equally. Both said they intend to invest part of the money and earmark a portion for charity, citing support for mental-health programs and a Thanksgiving food drive as immediate priorities. Espinal, 25, and Arenales, 28, gave their first post-villa television interview on NBC’s “Today” on July 15, saying they are still “digesting” their sudden celebrity but plan to keep much of their relationship private while continuing limited social-media engagement. In separate interviews with The Hollywood Reporter and TheWrap, the couple said they will focus on meeting each other’s families and adjusting to life off-camera before considering additional media projects.
