A recent survey conducted by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) reveals a marked shift in Ukrainian public opinion regarding the country's future. As of mid-2025, 47% of Ukrainians anticipate that Ukraine will face economic devastation and a significant population decline within the next decade, contrasting sharply with earlier optimism. In October 2022, 88% of respondents believed Ukraine would prosper as a member of the European Union, but this figure has steadily declined to 43% by May 2025. The survey also indicates a decline in trust towards Kyiv's peace negotiators, with a 12% drop in the number of Ukrainians who believe the negotiating team is doing everything possible to achieve peace. This growing pessimism reflects war fatigue and concerns over the long-term impact of ongoing conflict on Ukraine's economy and demographic stability.
