U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that “substantial progress” has been made toward ending the war in Ukraine, following back-to-back meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington. Speaking alongside Zelensky in the Oval Office, Trump indicated that a three-way meeting among the United States, Ukraine and Russia could take place if negotiations continue to advance. “If everything works out well today we’ll have a trilateral, and I think there will be a reasonable chance of ending the war when we do that,” he said, adding that both Putin and Zelensky “want this ended.” Zelensky thanked Trump for the invitation and reiterated Kyiv’s readiness to engage. Trump, who noted heavy recent casualties on both sides, did not provide a timeline or outline specific concessions but stressed that “there’s a possibility that something could come out” of the latest contacts with Moscow.
