The White House is weighing whether to invite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Alaska next week, according to a senior U.S. official and three people briefed on the matter. President Donald Trump is already scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin there on 15 August. No decision has been made, but the official said Trump "remains open to a trilateral summit with both leaders." The administration had initially sought Zelenskyy’s participation as a condition for the Trump-Putin encounter, before agreeing to hold the bilateral session at Putin’s request. Trump is seeking to broker a cease-fire in Ukraine. Special envoy Steve Witkoff met Putin in Moscow ahead of a Friday deadline for the Russian leader to accept a cease-fire or face additional U.S. sanctions. Putin has outlined a deal that would allow Russia to keep large swaths of occupied Ukrainian territory, an offer Zelenskyy rejected, insisting Ukrainians "will not give their land to occupiers."
