President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine will not cede "even an inch" of land occupied by Russian forces, stressing that the country’s constitution forbids territorial concessions. “Ukrainians will not give their land to the occupier,” he declared, adding that any agreement reached without Kyiv’s participation would be “a decision against peace.” Zelensky’s comments came after U.S. President Donald Trump floated the prospect of “swapping territories” as part of a prospective cease-fire deal with Russia. Trump is due to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on 15 August, and has publicly urged Zelensky to be ready to “sign something” that could end more than three years of full-scale war. European officials are holding consultations with Washington this weekend, but Kyiv insists that a durable settlement must restore Ukraine’s internationally recognised borders. Zelensky said the government remains open to “real and lasting peace” yet will not deviate from the constitutional mandate to protect the nation’s territorial integrity.
