🇺🇸 FEDERAL OFFICIAL: “WE DON’T WORK FOR KAREN BASS” Greg Bovino: “The federal government is not leaving L.A. - I don't work for Karen Bass. The federal government doesn't work for Karen Bass. We're going to be here until that mission's accomplished. Better get used to us https://t.co/x6j5PJ8YUI https://t.co/qc45KczVFm
U.S. Border Patrol El Centro Sector Chief Patrol Agent Gregory K. Bovino said federal immigration authorities will continue operating in Los Angeles regardless of opposition from Mayor Karen Bass. “The federal government is not leaving L.A. — I don’t work for Karen Bass,” Bovino told reporters, adding that agents “will be here until that mission’s accomplished.” Bovino’s remarks followed a 7 July enforcement action at MacArthur Park that drew a public confrontation with Bass. The unannounced raid, aimed at disrupting MS-13 gang activity and the production of false identity documents, involved Border Patrol, ICE officers and a contingent of U.S. Marines providing security. Bass arrived on scene and demanded the agents withdraw, citing public safety concerns; officers left the park without making confirmed arrests, but Bovino said similar operations will resume. The standoff underscores escalating tension between federal immigration authorities and leaders of sanctuary jurisdictions. Los Angeles has seen weeks of protests over expanded ICE raids, with state officials estimating about $1 billion in property damage from related unrest and seeking federal disaster assistance. Bovino said rhetoric against enforcement “will not impede” the Department of Homeland Security’s mandate.
