Former acting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Tom Homan said he will travel to Portland, Oregon, after five weeks of nightly demonstrations targeting the city’s ICE facility. Homan told Fox Business he will not allow activists to “bully” federal officers and pledged that agents will "do the job" regardless of the city’s sanctuary status. Federal officials say the South Portland building has faced escalating violence since early June, including attempts to set fires and assaults on officers. At least 21 people have been charged in federal court with crimes ranging from assault with deadly weapons to arson; additional suspects face local counts. Homan signaled a broader response beyond Portland, warning that jurisdictions limiting cooperation with ICE should expect “more agents in your communities and more collateral arrests.” He said the agency intends to intensify workplace and community operations if local jails refuse immigration detainers.
