The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that June 2025 saw the lowest number of nationwide border encounters and apprehensions in American history. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recorded a total of 25,243 encounters, marking a 12% decrease from the previous record set earlier in the year under the Trump administration. At the U.S. southwest border, apprehensions fell to 6,070, which is 15% lower than the previous record low of 7,180 in March. Additionally, the number of migrants who evaded capture, or "gotaways," dropped by 90% compared to the previous year. For the second consecutive month, no illegal immigrants were released into the United States by the U.S. Border Patrol. Homeland Secretary Kristi Noem and President Donald J. Trump both highlighted these statistics as evidence of the effectiveness of the administration's border enforcement policies. The data also includes a new 25-year record low for single-day apprehensions, with only 137 individuals detained. These figures have been described as the lowest monthly totals ever recorded and are cited as reflecting a closed border to unauthorized crossings under the current administration's leadership.

Under President Trump’s leadership, America now has the most secure border in our nation’s history. Last month, border encounters dropped to a record low—lower than any single day under Joe Biden. This is what real deterrence looks like. https://t.co/SHb89HzIzc
Border Patrol announced record-low border crossing numbers in June — validating that presidential leadership matters. At our current pace, it takes a full month to reach the daily total under the Biden administration. Strong leadership produces strong results.
