Public support for President Donald Trump’s handling of immigration has fallen to 41%, the lowest level since he returned to the White House in January, according to a nationwide Reuters/Ipsos survey completed on 16 July. The online poll of 1,027 adults, with a credibility interval of plus or minus three percentage points, found Trump’s overall job-approval rating unchanged at 41%, matching the record low registered in late June. Immigration had been the president’s strongest policy area earlier in the year, reaching 50% approval in February and March. Only 28% of respondents said workplace arrests of undocumented migrants are good for the country, while 54% disagreed. Republican voters were split on the tactic—56% in favor and 24% opposed—whereas Democrats overwhelmingly rejected it. A similar partisan divide emerged over whether immigration raids should be carried out like military operations, backed by 60% of Republicans and 25% of Democrats.
