U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said its Houston field office arrested 1,361 non-citizens with criminal histories during June, the largest monthly total reported for the region this year. The operation targeted people who entered the United States illegally and were later charged with or convicted of crimes. The agency’s breakdown shows 32 of those detained had convictions for child-sex offenses, nine had homicide-related convictions, and 16 were identified as members of transnational gangs or drug cartels. Among those taken into custody was Adermis Wilson-Gonzalez, a 56-year-old Cuban national who hijacked a flight from Cuba to Florida in 2003. ICE said all individuals arrested are either awaiting prosecution or facing removal proceedings. The sweep underscores the Biden administration’s continued reliance on targeted enforcement actions as broader immigration and border-security policies remain the subject of legal and political disputes.
