The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said federal agents arrested four foreign nationals with prior convictions or open warrants for serious sexual crimes in coordinated operations on 10 July. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Salt Lake City detained Guadalupe Cuevas-Sotelo, a 48-year-old Mexican citizen convicted in Utah of sexual abuse of a child and attempted rape, while separate ICE officers apprehended Miguel Angel Salmeron-Granados, a 39-year-old Salvadoran convicted of first-degree sexual abuse. In California, U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested Gilberto Chox-Chox, who is wanted in Guatemala on a charge of sexual aggression, and Lazaro Vladimir Martinez-Argundi, a 53-year-old Cuban national previously convicted of child sexual abuse. Homeland Security said the arrests are part of an ongoing initiative directed by President Donald Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to remove what the administration describes as the “worst of the worst” criminal undocumented immigrants from U.S. communities.
