The White House plans to establish an official presence on TikTok, according to a report carried by Reuters on Tuesday. The move would mark the first time the executive branch has opened an account on the Chinese-owned social-media platform. The decision comes after several years of bipartisan efforts in Congress to restrict or ban TikTok in the United States over data-security and content-moderation concerns. Sponsors of the proposed ban have said support grew partly out of lawmakers’ worries that the platform hosts messages critical of Israel that resonate with young Americans.
