White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett said on Sunday that there is “zero chance” the United States will slip into recession next year, predicting instead that the economy will accelerate. In an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” the director of the National Economic Council said internal models point to growth of about 3% in 2025. Hassett argued that such an expansion would generate roughly $4 trillion more in tax revenue than the Congressional Budget Office currently projects, and he dismissed recession warnings from lawmakers and some private forecasters as “doom-mongering.” The administration’s upbeat outlook contrasts with market concerns that high interest rates and the recently imposed 145% tariff on Chinese goods could damp spending in the second half of 2025. Hassett said prior forecasts had underestimated the resilience of the post-pandemic economy and that White House projections will be borne out in the coming quarters.
