New campaign-finance filings show out-of-state money is flooding New York City’s mayoral contest, with both the incumbent and the Democratic Socialist challenger relying heavily on donors beyond the five boroughs. Zohran Mamdani, who stunned observers by defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the June 24 Democratic primary, collected $852,142 in the most recent filing period, according to state disclosures. Slightly more than half of that money—50.02%—came from zip codes outside New York City. Earlier records covering June 25 to July 11 indicate that $351,423 of the $816,014 he raised, and 72% of his total campaign cash to date, originated out of state. A separate political-action committee, New Yorkers for Lower Costs, spent $1.3 million on his behalf, with 71.5% of its own funding coming from donors outside New York. Mayor Eric Adams continues to lead the money race. The filings show he brought in more than $1.5 million during the 17 days after the primary, nearly double Mamdani’s haul, drawing on more than 1,600 contributors. Roughly 46% of the mayor’s latest donations came from outside the city, with large checks from real-estate interests helping to fuel the surge. Other candidates trail far behind. Cuomo reported just $64,243 for the period, a third of it from non-city donors, while Republican Curtis Sliwa took in $168,889, with 38% coming from outside New York. The influx of national money underscores the high stakes of the November election, in which Mamdani, Adams, Cuomo and Sliwa will all appear on the general-election ballot.

Mayor Adams raised 1.5 million dollars in his latest fundraising haul. This puts him above Cuomo (who should have dropped out) and Mumdani.
