U.S. Representative Barry Moore on Tuesday formally entered the 2026 race for Alabama’s open U.S. Senate seat, pledging to advance former President Donald Trump’s agenda and curb federal spending. Moore, 58, has represented Alabama’s 1st Congressional District since 2021 and was the first elected official to endorse Trump during the 2016 campaign. The seat is opening because first-term Senator Tommy Tuberville has opted to run for governor rather than seek re-election. Moore joins what is expected to be a crowded Republican primary that already includes Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall and former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson. Several Democratic contenders—Kyle Sweetser, Dakarai Larriett and Mark Wheeler II—have also launched campaigns. Moore, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, highlighted the national debt and government spending as top issues and said he would support changes to Senate rules to expedite confirmation of presidential nominees. He framed his candidacy as an effort to ensure Alabama sends a “true conservative voice” to the upper chamber.
