Texas State Sen. Angela Paxton filed for divorce from her husband of 38 years, Attorney General Ken Paxton, in Collin County on 10 July. Court documents accuse the attorney general of adultery and describe the split as based on “biblical grounds.” In a statement, Angela Paxton said she had “earnestly pursued reconciliation” but that “recent discoveries” made the marriage untenable. Ken Paxton replied that the couple would begin “a new chapter” after enduring “political attacks and public scrutiny,” asking for privacy for their family. The break comes as Ken Paxton campaigns to unseat fellow Republican John Cornyn in the 2026 U.S. Senate primary. The National Republican Senatorial Committee, which backs Cornyn, condemned Paxton’s conduct as “repulsive and disgusting” and voiced support for Angela Paxton. Paxton’s campaign simultaneously reported raising $2.9 million in the second quarter, its first full fundraising period since he entered the Senate race in April. Cornyn has not yet released his latest finance figures. The divorce revives allegations of extramarital affairs that surfaced during Ken Paxton’s 2023 impeachment trial, when he was acquitted of corruption charges. Political analysts say the loss of Angela Paxton’s public support could erode the attorney general’s standing among religious conservatives and complicate his bid for higher office.
