California state legislators will hold hearings later today, as the Governor moves forward with plans to redistrict Congressional maps ahead of the 2026 midterms
California legislators are convening a series of hearings on Tuesday to review the governor’s proposal to redraw the state’s congressional districts ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. A joint committee meeting is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. Pacific, followed by a Senate hearing at 12:30 p.m. Eastern on C-SPAN and an Assembly session an hour later on C-SPAN2. The governor argues that the updated maps are needed to reflect population shifts and ensure compliance with federal voting-rights standards. Lawmakers will take public testimony and question state redistricting officials on the legal criteria, projected partisan balance and the timeline for adopting final lines. Any plan approved by the legislature would still need the governor’s signature before taking effect for the 2026 races.
