Gun-rights organizations intensified pressure on Senate Republican leaders to reinstate language repealing the National Firearms Act excise tax on silencers, short-barreled rifles, shotguns and other weapons in H.R. 1, the sweeping “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” Gun Owners of America and the National Association for Gun Rights argued that the measure, backed by the earlier Hearing Protection Act and SHORT Act, could still be added if senators overrule or dismiss the chamber’s parliamentarian. The groups called on Senate Minority Whip John Thune and freshman Sen. J.D. Vance to heed former President Donald Trump’s public demand to “fire” or override the parliamentarian and restore the full repeal. While Senate drafters are reportedly considering a narrower provision that would set the NFA tax at zero, the advocacy groups insist that anything short of a complete repeal would fall short of Republican campaign promises on Second Amendment rights.
YES @realDonaldTrump! Keep your promise to Gun Owners and tell @LeaderJohnThune to fire the unelected Parliamentarian, or tell @JDVance to overrule her! We need to pass the full NFA Tax Repeal for Silencers, SBRs, SBSs, and AOWs in the One, Big Beautiful Bill! https://t.co/pGmi7yQu6T https://t.co/iaTnn0YD7H
Senate Republicans MUST re-insert the full, GOA-backed NFA excise tax & registration repeal into H.R. 1 and fire or overrule the Parliamentarian, IMMEDIATELY. @LeaderJohnThune and @JDVance must listen to President Trump and restore our Second Amendment rights! https://t.co/5GwljzJDxA
Trump is right. Override the Parliamentarian, restore ALL pro-gun language! https://t.co/QzTSdB6jf3
