A new Harvard-Harris survey of 2,025 registered voters conducted Aug. 20-21 finds 54 percent of respondents believe President Donald Trump is doing a better job than his predecessor, Joe Biden, while 46 percent say he is doing worse. In a hypothetical rematch against Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump leads 53 percent to 47 percent, the poll shows. Despite the advantage over Biden and Harris, economic doubts remain. Fifty-five percent of those questioned say Trump’s policies are raising inflation, and 43 percent expect to be financially worse off under his administration; 33 percent anticipate an improvement. Other recent polls paint a mixed picture of the president’s standing. Rasmussen’s Aug. 25 daily tracking survey puts approval at 50 percent against 49 percent disapproval, whereas a YouGov/The Economist poll taken Aug. 15-18 shows Trump under water at 40 percent approval and 56 percent disapproval, including 47 percent who strongly disapprove. On policy, an RMG survey released Aug. 21 finds voters trust Republicans over Democrats on immigration by 50 percent to 36 percent, a 14-point gap that could bolster the White House’s position on the issue. State-level data underscore regional headwinds. An Alaska Survey Research poll conducted July 29-Aug. 1 reports Trump’s approval in the deep-red state at 41 percent, with 50 percent disapproval. The same poll shows Republican Senator Dan Sullivan holding a 47-42 lead over Democratic Representative Mary Peltola ahead of the 2026 Senate contest.
