A newly formed alliance of uniformed-service unions is poised to endorse New York Mayor Eric Adams’ independent bid for a second term, giving the embattled incumbent his first major labor backing since declaring an unaffiliated run after losing the Democratic primary last month. The coalition—branded NYC Uniformed Forces Coalition 2025—includes the NYPD’s Detectives’ Endowment Association, Lieutenants Benevolent Association, Sergeants Benevolent Association and Captains Endowment Association, as well as the Department of Correction’s rank-and-file and captains’ unions. Leaders plan to announce the endorsement at a press conference on the steps of City Hall on Thursday, 17 July, according to emails to members and people familiar with the plans. The Police Benevolent Association, the city’s largest police union, attended initial talks but intends to decide separately, leaving it off Thursday’s dais. Even so, support from the other law-enforcement groups could help Adams shore up credibility on public-safety issues as he tries to close a polling gap with Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani ahead of the November general election.
