Zohran Mamdani holds a double-digit advantage in the race for New York City mayor, according to a Gotham Polling & Analytics survey conducted for AARP on Aug. 11. The poll shows the 33-year-old democratic socialist leading with 41.8% support, well ahead of former governor Andrew Cuomo at 23.4%, Republican-turned-independent Curtis Sliwa at 16.5% and incumbent mayor Eric Adams at 8.8%. Another 7.9% of respondents remain undecided. The fragmented opposition has intensified unease among moderate Democrats and business leaders who fear vote-splitting could clear Mamdani’s path to City Hall. ADL chief Jonathan Greenblatt publicly questioned why the candidate has not held a widely publicized meeting with mainstream Jewish organizations, adding to concerns raised by party centrists over Mamdani’s left-leaning positions on taxation, policing and housing. Adding to the crowded field, Cuban-born tech investor Joseph Hernandez this week qualified for the November ballot as an independent, promising to hire 10,000 additional police officers and convert unused office space into affordable housing. While Hernandez has raised roughly $300,000, strategists say his entry further complicates efforts to consolidate an anti-Mamdani coalition with less than three months before Election Day.
Cuomo + Sliwa + Adams = 48% Which achieves nothing in terms of stopping Mamdani, with all of them still in the race… https://t.co/aLVokoKaqC
Fwiw, Mamdani has said that he’s encourage people not to use the intifada slogan + during the primary, he attended several mayoral candidate forums held in NYC synagogues, including a town hall at the UJA Federation of NY HQ. https://t.co/kENiYj55e7
