A new Roanoke College poll shows Democratic congresswoman Abigail Spanberger holding a single-digit lead over Republican lieutenant governor Winsome Earle-Sears in Virginia’s 2025 governor’s race. Spanberger is backed by 46% of likely voters, compared with 39% for Earle-Sears. The survey of 602 likely voters was conducted Aug. 11–15 and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points, leaving the contest competitive as the campaign heads into its post-Labor Day stretch. Democrats also lead the other two statewide contests tested. In the race for attorney general, Democrat Ghazala Hashmi Jones* has 41% to incumbent Republican Jason Miyares’s 38%. For lieutenant governor, Democratic state senator Ghazala Hashmi registers 38%, while Republican businessman Tim Reid sits at 35%. Favorability ratings in the poll highlight mixed sentiments toward state and national figures: Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin is viewed positively by 8 points on net, while Spanberger enjoys a 6-point net favorability. Earle-Sears is 7 points underwater, and former President Donald Trump is 16 points negative.
