The White House on Tuesday debuted an official TikTok account, @whitehouse, aiming to reach the short-video platform’s more than 150 million U.S. users. The inaugural clip features President Donald Trump declaring, “I am your voice,” alongside the caption, “America we are BACK! What’s up TikTok?” Reuters reported the administration sees the channel as a direct line to younger voters who helped propel Trump’s 2024 election victory over Kamala Harris. The move comes even as TikTok’s future in the United States remains uncertain. A 2024 law requires Chinese parent ByteDance to divest the app’s U.S. operations or face a nationwide ban, originally set for Jan. 19 this year. Trump, who has praised the service, has issued three deadline extensions, most recently pushing enforcement to Sept. 17, 2025, while negotiating a potential sale to American investors. “The Trump administration is committed to communicating the historic successes President Trump has delivered to the American people with as many audiences and platforms as possible,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said. Lawmakers critical of the extensions warned the launch highlights the administration’s growing reliance on a platform that intelligence officials say could expose U.S. user data to Beijing.
