Trump: not briefed on blanche interview with maxwell
Ghislaine Maxwell told the U.S. Justice Department that she never witnessed President Donald Trump engage in any troubling conduct during their past encounters, according to reports from ABC News, The Independent and other outlets citing people familiar with the matter. The statement was made during roughly nine hours of questioning last month at a federal courthouse in Tallahassee, Florida, by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who previously served as Trump’s personal lawyer. Maxwell, 63, was asked about around 100 individuals linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and, her attorney said, answered every question without invoking privilege. The Justice Department made an audio recording and transcript of the meeting and is weighing whether to release them. Maxwell is serving a 20-year prison term for recruiting underage girls for Epstein and recently was moved from a low-security facility in Florida to a minimum-security prison camp in Texas. She is pursuing an appeal before the U.S. Supreme Court and has opposed broader disclosure of sealed grand-jury materials related to the Epstein investigation. Asked on Wednesday whether he had been briefed on Maxwell’s comments, Trump replied, “No, I haven’t.” The White House and Justice Department have not indicated when a decision on releasing the interview transcript might be made.
