President Donald Trump said he has chosen legal scholar Jennifer Mascott for a vacancy on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Mascott is a professor at George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School and previously clerked for Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh. The White House framed the selection as part of its continuing effort to place conservative jurists on the federal bench, a priority that has reshaped the courts during Trump’s presidency. Separately, Senate Judiciary Committee member Lindsey Graham said the panel is scheduled to vote tomorrow on the nomination of former New York judge and television host Jeanine Pirro to become U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. Pirro was tapped for the post by Trump earlier this year. If advanced by the committee, her nomination would move to the full Senate for confirmation.
