🚨 BREAKING: Governor Ron DeSantis just confirmed the red state of FLORIDA will REDRAW their U.S. Congressional map…and he may eliminate the racist VRA district. Republicans stand to gain seats. Gavin did NOT want to hear this news. https://t.co/957qfiFtYK
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said the state will redraw its U.S. congressional map next spring, even if the Trump administration declines to allocate the additional House seat he argues the state deserves. Florida currently holds 28 seats; DeSantis said the legislature may prepare maps with either 28 or 29 seats depending on the outcome of an apportionment appeal to Washington. The Republican governor added that the review could eliminate the state’s lone district drawn expressly under the federal Voting Rights Act, contending that recent Florida Supreme Court guidance allows boundaries to be reconsidered when race was a primary factor. He maintains that undocumented immigrants were undercounted in the 2030 census, leading to Florida being “shortchanged” during the last apportionment. Florida’s existing map, drafted by DeSantis’s office and approved in 2022, produced a 20–8 Republican advantage in the delegation and was credited by the governor with helping secure the GOP majority in the U.S. House. DeSantis said Attorney General James Uthmeier will continue pressing the Trump administration to revisit the census figures, but the state will proceed with redistricting regardless of the federal response.
