We are slow walking towards a crisis. Because of the GOP tax bill, millions will face HUGE health insurance premium hikes next year. I'm fighting to stop this because the last thing folks need right now is for the cost of their health insurance to double overnight.
House Republicans have passed a bill that rolls back federal tax credits and investments in clean energy infrastructure, prompting criticism from Democratic lawmakers. The legislation is projected to increase utility bills and insurance premiums for American families, with estimates of an additional $400 annually for families in the Fighting Fifth district and nearly $700 more per year for California households. Democratic representatives and senators, including Nikema Williams, John Garamendi, Deborah Ross, Mark DeSaulnier, Jacky Rosen, Derek Tran, and Senator Raphael Warnock, have voiced concerns that the bill will harm clean energy progress, cost jobs, and negatively impact the economy. Garamendi highlighted that the bill could result in the loss of over 100,000 jobs in California and cost nearly $100 billion, while Warnock warned of substantial health insurance premium hikes. Efforts to amend the bill to protect clean energy provisions were blocked by Republicans. Democratic lawmakers are organizing roundtables and town halls to oppose the bill and advocate for policies that support affordable clean energy and environmental protection.
