A coalition of Dallas-Fort Worth clergy, parents and the Next Generation Action Network Legal Advocacy Fund has filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas seeking to stop the implementation of Senate Bill 10, the state’s new classroom Ten Commandments mandate. The complaint, lodged on 24 June and unsealed a day later, names the Texas Education Agency, Commissioner Mike Morath and the Dallas, DeSoto and Lancaster school districts as defendants. It argues that forcing public schools to display the religious text violates the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause and interferes with parents’ right to direct their children’s religious upbringing. “We are not theocratic temples,” plaintiff Dominique Alexander said in a statement, adding that the law invites ‘indoctrination’ rather than education. Signed by Governor Greg Abbott on 21 June, Senate Bill 10 requires each classroom to mount a durable 16-by-20-inch copy of a state-selected version of the Ten Commandments in a typeface legible “from anywhere in the room.” The measure is scheduled to take effect on 1 September. District officials have said they are monitoring the litigation, while the Texas Education Agency has not commented beyond acknowledging receipt of the lawsuit. The Texas challenge is the latest in a series of courtroom battles over similar statutes promoted by Republican-led legislatures. On 12 June seven multifaith families sued to block an August rollout of an almost identical Arkansas requirement signed this spring by Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Last year, federal courts declared Louisiana’s 2024 Ten Commandments display law “plainly unconstitutional,” a ruling now on appeal. Together, the cases set up a fresh test of how far states may go in weaving religious texts into public-school settings.

Great news! This Christian camp has won its lawsuit against the state of Colorado and won’t be forced to allow boys into girls’ cabins. Remember: progressives will stop at nothing to force you to abide by their ideological beliefs. Grateful to @ADFLegal for defending our https://t.co/Zy4w3k6P2a
