Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent struck a similarly upbeat tone, calling Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies “the most significant phenomenon in the world right now.” Bessent said recent projections put the potential size of the stablecoin market at about $3.7 trillion by the end of the decade, highlighting the scale of opportunity officials believe digital money could unlock. The comments arrive as Congress advances the GENIUS Act, the first federal framework for regulating stablecoins. The bipartisan measure, which cleared the Senate earlier this week with White House backing, aims to integrate dollar-pegged tokens into the broader financial system and, according to supporters, could strengthen the dollar’s dominance by making it a friction-free digital export.
