Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado has called for the release of Perkins Rocha and Biagio Pilieri, marking the one-year anniversary of their detentions. Machado described Rocha and Pilieri as heroes and sources of inspiration, expressing confidence that they will emerge strengthened from their imprisonment. Biagio Pilieri, the national coordinator of the political party Convergencia, has been detained for a year without communication, and his family has been unable to contact him. His wife, María Vasile de Pilieri, stated that he is awaiting trial but has been denied the right to appoint a private defense lawyer, relying solely on a public defender. Various political parties, NGOs, and professional groups have joined demands for Pilieri's release. Machado also emphasized that the political transition in Venezuela has begun and expressed readiness for the return of democracy. In a televised interview, she highlighted the repression faced by opposition figures, noting that anyone who raises their voice risks detention under the Maduro regime.
