Electronic Arts executives and senior developers said Battlefield 6 will avoid the pop-culture crossover skins that have proliferated in rival shooters, opting instead for cosmetics that match the series’ grounded, military aesthetic. “It has to be realistic … I don’t think it needs Nicki Minaj,” design director Shashank Uchil told DBLTAP, echoing comments from UX director Alan Pimm and studio head Vince Zampella in separate interviews published on 1 August. General manager Byron Beede, who previously oversaw the Call of Duty franchise, added that the team wants players to differentiate themselves “in a way that doesn’t go too far,” distancing the upcoming title from Activision’s strategy of licensing television and music personalities for in-game skins. Separately, the developers said Battlefield 6 will introduce limits on which secondary weapons each class can equip, a response to player feedback seeking clearer battlefield roles. The game is scheduled for release later this year across major platforms.
