Dune: Awakening, a survival MMO developed by Funcom and set on the planet Arrakis, has surpassed one million sales, making it the studio's best-performing game to date. The game initially featured a PvP-heavy endgame experience centered around the Deep Desert, which led to criticism from PvE players. In response, Funcom has introduced "partial warfare" endgame zones to expand the PvE content and reduce forced PvP confrontations. Multiple updates and hotfixes have been released to improve the endgame experience, including allowing players to explore the Deep Desert without mandatory PvP engagement, fixing a resource duplication glitch, addressing an item repair exploit, and resolving network errors. Despite these improvements, a recent patch inadvertently converted a PvE zone into a PvP area, resulting in lost player bases and equipment. Funcom has apologized for this error and committed to reimbursing affected players by the end of the week. Critics have praised the game for capturing the essence of Frank Herbert's Dune universe, and it is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
