Nintendo has released “Donkey Kong Bananza,” a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive that revives the 43-year-old franchise after an 11-year hiatus. Developed by the team behind “Super Mario Odyssey,” the 3-D platformer returns Donkey Kong to open-world gameplay for the first time since 1999’s “Donkey Kong 64.” The title is on sale for $69 at major retailers such as Walmart and for $62.99 at Costco, with premium collector editions commanding higher prices. Early reviews from outlets including IGN, Newsweek and French media give near-perfect scores, praising its large destructible environments and co-operative multiplayer that takes advantage of the new Joy-Con 2 hardware. Technical analysis published by Digital Foundry notes the game does not use the Nintendo Switch 2’s headline Nvidia DLSS upscaling technology. Instead, it relies on AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 1 paired with SMAA, delivering a dynamic resolution of roughly 1080p to 1200p when docked. Handheld mode reportedly maintains a sharp 1080p presentation on the console’s internal display. Nintendo issued a day-one Version 1.1.0 patch that introduces GameShare and GameChat options for local co-op, alongside bug fixes intended to improve overall performance.
