Ubisoft has appointed company veteran Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot, the son of CEO and co-founder Yves Guillemot, as co-chief executives of its newly created subsidiary that will oversee the publisher’s three biggest franchises—Assassin’s Creed, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six and Far Cry. The spinoff, announced in March and scheduled to be fully operational by the end of 2025, is being funded by a €1.16 billion ($1.25 billion) investment from Tencent, which will hold a minority stake while Ubisoft retains full operational control. The new entity is intended to give development teams greater autonomy and speed as the company seeks to turn the game series into perennial, multi-platform brands. Derennes, a 35-year Ubisoft veteran who launched and led the Montreal studio and most recently ran North American operations, will focus on production and technology. Charlie Guillemot—who previously headed mobile studio Owlient, left in 2022 to co-found Web3 start-up Unagi and rejoined Ubisoft earlier this year—will concentrate on brand strategy, creative direction and marketing. Asked about potential nepotism, Charlie Guillemot said his appointment is based on experience and the "work ahead," adding that the restructuring aims to give teams "more focus, autonomy and accountability." No successor has yet been named for Derennes’s former North America managing director role.
