On August 19, 2025, a group of current and former Microsoft employees, along with community members, initiated a protest encampment at Microsoft's headquarters in Redmond, Washington. The demonstrators, identifying as the "Worker Intifada" and "No Azure for Apartheid" activists, demanded that Microsoft sever its business ties with the Israeli military, criticizing the use of Microsoft software in military operations and surveillance in Gaza. The protestors occupied the East Campus Plaza, which they renamed the "Martyred Palestinian Children’s Plaza," and declared their intent to maintain the occupation until their demands were met. The encampment represented the largest escalation of protests at Microsoft on this issue to date. However, after approximately four hours, the occupation ended following police intervention and warnings of forcible removal. Subsequent protests continued, with activists establishing a "Liberated Zone" at the campus and staging further demonstrations in the Seattle area and San Jose. These actions led to the arrest of 18 individuals at Microsoft's headquarters as the company reviews its relationship with the Israeli military.
