Sudan's military announced it destroyed an Emirati aircraft carrying approximately 40 Colombian mercenaries as it landed at Nyala airport in the Darfur region. The plane was reportedly bombed and completely destroyed during its landing at an airport controlled by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Sudan accused the United Arab Emirates (UAE) of supporting the RSF with advanced weaponry and hiring Colombian mercenaries to fight against the Sudanese army. Following the incident, Sudanese authorities stated that the UAE barred Sudanese planes from landing at its airports, including Abu Dhabi. The UAE has denied involvement in the destruction of the aircraft and rejected the claims of transporting mercenaries. Colombia confirmed casualties among its nationals and is seeking their repatriation. Diplomatic relations between Sudan and the UAE had been severed in May amid escalating tensions. The UAE Foreign Ministry called for an end to the conflict in Sudan and accused the "Port Sudan authority" of spreading misinformation and undermining peace efforts. Sudanese state media and military sources continue to assert the destruction of the UAE-linked plane and the killing of the Colombian mercenaries, while the UAE maintains its denial.
