U.S. Vice President JD Vance and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy convened national security advisers from the United States, Europe and Ukraine at Chevening House on Saturday to coordinate positions ahead of renewed diplomacy on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The gathering included senior Kyiv officials Andrii Yermak and Rustem Umerov and followed days of trilateral calls among Washington, London and Brussels. Speaking in a pre-recorded Fox News interview aired Sunday, Vance said Washington seeks a cease-fire that both Russia and Ukraine can tolerate, even if “nobody is super happy with it.” He added that the United States is “done with the funding of the Ukraine war business,” urging European governments to take greater financial responsibility while remaining free to purchase U.S. weapons. Vance confirmed the White House is arranging an Aug. 15 meeting in Alaska between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin and is exploring a subsequent three-way session that would bring in Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The vice president argued it would be unproductive for Putin and Zelensky to meet before Trump’s bilateral with the Kremlin leader, but said scheduling discussions for a broader summit are under way.
