President Donald Trump paid a rare visit to the Federal Reserve’s historic headquarters in Washington on Thursday, becoming only the fourth sitting president to tour the central bank since Franklin D. Roosevelt attended the building’s opening in 1937. Senators Tim Scott of South Carolina and Thom Tillis of North Carolina accompanied the president. In a statement released Friday, a Federal Reserve spokesperson said the central bank was "honored" by the visit and "grateful for the President’s encouragement" on its multiyear renovation project. The Fed said it remains "committed to continuing to be careful stewards of these resources as we see the project through to completion." The bank did not disclose any policy discussions during the tour and stressed that the meeting focused on progress at the construction site. No completion date for the renovation was provided.
