The Confederation of African Football has doubled the winner’s cheque for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco to USD 1 million and lifted the overall prize pool by 45 percent to USD 3.475 million. Announcing the adjustment on 4 July, CAF President Patrice Motsepe said the move underscores the body’s “continued commitment to the development and growth of women’s football in Africa,” and expressed hope that higher rewards would translate into better salaries for players and coaches across the continent. The expanded purse sets the stage for the tournament that runs from 5 to 26 July across six venues in Morocco. Hosts Morocco face Zambia in the opener in Rabat, while defending champions South Africa and nine-time title-holders Nigeria head rival groups as they bid for another crown. South Africa enter the competition on the back of their historic 2022 triumph, and Nigeria arrive after a 3-1 warm-up win over Ghana. Twelve nations will compete for the enlarged rewards unveiled on the eve of kickoff.
