Google Cloud has introduced “Gemini for Government,” a generative-AI suite that U.S. federal agencies can access for less than 50 cents per agency for an entire year, the General Services Administration confirmed. The offering bundles large-language-model capabilities such as enterprise search, video and image generation, NotebookLM and agent-building tools, and is delivered with FedRAMP-high security and Vertex AI integration. The cut-rate package escalates an intensifying price war among leading AI vendors. OpenAI and Anthropic set the previous floor earlier this month with $1 annual plans under separate GSA agreements; Google is now undercutting those offers by roughly half, arguing that its custom Tensor Processing Units and data-center scale allow it to drive costs sharply lower while expanding adoption. Google is pairing the aggressive public-sector pricing with high-profile commercial wins. The company has struck a $10 billion multi-year deal to supply cloud and AI infrastructure to Meta and is in discussions with Apple to embed the Gemini model in future versions of Siri. Although ChatGPT still dominates web traffic, logging 46.6 billion visits last year versus Gemini’s 1.7 billion, the latest moves signal Google’s determination to translate its compute advantages into market share across government and enterprise workloads.
