Samsung Electronics used its Galaxy Unpacked showcase in Brooklyn on 9 July to reveal the seventh generation of its foldable devices, headlined by the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. The new models trim weight and thickness to levels close to conventional smartphones, while adding larger displays, updated processors and expanded artificial-intelligence functions baked into Android 16 and One UI 8. The book-style Galaxy Z Fold 7 measures 8.9 millimetres when closed and weighs 215 grams, yet now carries an 8-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner panel, a 6.5-inch cover screen in a wider 21:9 ratio and a 200-megapixel main camera borrowed from the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy and starts at $1,999.99 for 256 GB of storage, though the slimmer design forced Samsung to drop previous S-Pen support. The clamshell Galaxy Z Flip 7 gains a 4.1-inch edge-to-edge external display and a 6.9-inch inner screen, is powered by Samsung’s 3-nanometre Exynos 2500 chip and is priced from $1,099.99. For the first time Samsung added a lower-cost foldable, the Z Flip 7 FE, at $899 with pared-back battery and camera specifications aimed at widening adoption. Samsung said all three phones will receive seven years of operating-system and security updates and can withstand about 200,000 folds, while a separate certification claims the Fold 7’s display survives 500,000 cycles. Orders opened immediately, with global shipments slated to begin 25 July. The launches intensify the race for ever-thinner foldables sparked a week earlier by China’s Honor, whose Magic V5 debuted at 8.8 millimetres. Samsung executives also confirmed development of a tri-fold handset—provisionally dubbed Galaxy G Fold—with a commercial release targeted before year-end, signalling the company’s intent to expand its form-factor lead even as rivals crowd the segment.
