Meta Platforms plans to unveil its first consumer smart glasses with an integrated screen at its Connect conference on 17–18 September, according to multiple reports. Codenamed “Hypernova,” the eyewear features a monocular display embedded in the right lens that delivers notifications within a 20-degree field of view. Users will navigate the interface through voice commands, touch-sensitive temples and a neural wristband that relies on electromyography to read subtle hand movements. The device is expected to retail for roughly $800 and will extend Meta’s collaboration with eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica, following earlier Ray-Ban and Oakley launches. Samsung is preparing to counter with its own mixed-reality offering. Industry sources say the company will fully detail the Android-based Project Moohan headset—likely to be branded “Galaxy XR”—at a Galaxy Unpacked event on 29 September, with Korean sales beginning 13 October. The headset is tipped to cost between $1,800 and $2,800, run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip and ship about 100,000 units by year-end, positioning it below Apple’s Vision Pro but well above Meta’s hardware on price. The forthcoming launches underscore an accelerating contest in consumer augmented and mixed reality. Meta has just expanded its lower-end line with Oakley Meta HSTN glasses, now in stores starting at $400, while Chinese start-up Rokid is introducing display-equipped smart glasses internationally in November for $599. With price points ranging from sub-$600 eyewear to near-$3,000 headsets, the two tech heavyweights and a growing cadre of rivals are testing how much consumers will pay—and what features they will accept—for heads-up computing.
Samsung's Project Moohan headset could be pricey, with a new report pricing it between $1,800 and $2,800. https://t.co/DOuNu5N1Gz
Jay Sole at UBS living up to my #1 II/Extel recommendation. Don't see Kevin Plank at $UAA doing much access and the Brooks get extra impressive. $DECK and $WWW product people strong too. Maybe Rhone should send somebody other than a marketing person? https://t.co/Y7SpnyEgcF
The regular Oakley Meta HSTN glasses are now shipping and available in stores. Starting at $400, they have longer battery life than Ray-Ban Meta and record 3K video. Details here: https://t.co/nihtEb7Jl0 https://t.co/xS8jyoK5yh
