Australian Federal Police opened an investigation after an officer’s firearm discharged during an arrest at Sydney Airport’s T2 domestic terminal shortly before 9 a.m. on Wednesday. The incident triggered a brief lockdown of part of the terminal but did not disrupt flight schedules. Police said a man was taken into custody after a struggle in a food-court area, during which he allegedly tried to seize an officer’s long gun. One round was fired, striking a wall; no passengers, staff or officers were injured, according to the AFP and airport authorities. A crime scene has been established while investigators review security footage and witness accounts. Sydney Airport said operations for airlines including Jetstar and Virgin Australia are continuing as normal and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
