Tesla Inc. has opened preliminary discussions with Nevada state officials about launching a robotaxi service in the state, Bloomberg reported, citing the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles. The DMV said Tesla representatives met last week with staff from Governor Joe Lombardo’s office and the agency to explore an expansion of the company’s self-driving vehicle operations, including its Full Self-Driving software–based robotaxis. The talks are still at an early stage and no formal applications or regulatory filings have been submitted, according to the DMV. If the project proceeds, Nevada could become one of the first states to host Tesla’s planned autonomous ride-hailing network.
