The Bangladesh Nationalist Party has stepped up its criticism of the interim government, alleging a sharp deterioration in law and order marked by an increase in murders, robberies and extortion. Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told reporters that “no one has the right to take the law into their own hands”, adding that police inertia is allowing vigilante attacks and other crimes to spread. Rizvi urged the administration to act decisively against what he called a growing culture of mob violence, warning that the authorities’ “inaction and incompetence” are eroding public security. He also questioned whether elements within the police are seeking to undermine the Professor Muhammad Yunus-led caretaker cabinet, which assumed office ahead of elections scheduled for February. In a separate statement, the BNP’s standing committee condemned the ruling Awami League after activists allegedly assaulted a National Citizen Party rally in Gopalganj this week. The committee called the incident a deliberate effort to intimidate opposition groups and destabilise the electoral process, and demanded swift measures to restore order and safeguard political gatherings.
