Former Corinthians president Andrés Sanchez acknowledged on 10 July that he used a club corporate credit card to pay R$9,416 in personal expenses during a New Year’s trip to Tibau do Sul, Rio Grande do Norte, at the end of 2020. He said he would reimburse the full amount, adding that the payment will be made as soon as 11 July. A leaked credit-card statement showed charges of R$6,750 with tour operator Guairas Tour, R$2,222.50 at the Hotel Sombra e Água Fresca and R$444.40 at the Cicchetti restaurant. Sanchez, who had stepped aside from day-to-day duties two weeks before the 2020 club election, initially denied the spending but now attributes the incident to having personal and corporate cards from the same bank, Santander. The episode has drawn scrutiny of Corinthians’ internal controls. Sanchez argued the club’s financial department should have alerted him to the error and said he would add interest and inflation adjustments to the repayment. The Fiscal Council, chaired since 2021 by Sanchez ally João de Oliveira, is responsible for oversight of corporate card use.
