Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has denied the requests to summon Carlos and Eduardo Bolsonaro as witnesses in the criminal case related to the so-called "núcleo 2" of a plot involving attempts to undermine democratic institutions. This decision was confirmed in early July 2025. Subsequently, the Minister of Defense, José Múcio Monteiro, who had been indicated as a witness by the defense of a military defendant in the same case, requested to be excused from testifying. Moraes granted this request, citing that José Múcio claimed to have no knowledge of the facts described in the accusations against the military personnel involved.
