Brazilian funk singer MC Daniel is facing a flurry of allegations and counter-claims days after he and businesswoman Lorena Maria confirmed the end of their engagement on 12 July. In the immediate aftermath of the break-up, Lorena’s friend Rapha Werneck publicly labeled the artist “toxic, abusive, aggressive and deceitful.” Daniel responded by filing a defamation suit against Werneck and said he will pursue additional legal action against websites and social-media accounts that repeated the accusations. A separate complaint has been lodged by childbirth photographer Aline Morais, who says Daniel shouted at her, grabbed her arm and later threatened to destroy her career when she refused to release footage before being paid for documenting the birth of the couple’s son, Rás, earlier this year. Morais claims the episode left her unable to work for 40 days and that she possesses messages and audio that corroborate her version. Daniel rejects both sets of allegations. He argues that Morais arrived late, behaved intrusively and tried to impose unwanted payment terms, and says he may publish audio recordings—reportedly with Lorena’s consent—to defend himself. The singer also denies any aggression toward Lorena and vows further lawsuits against what he calls “fake news.” The dispute has spilled into Brazil’s entertainment circles, drawing comment from fellow performer MC Mirella. While no criminal charges have been filed, all parties say they are prepared to present evidence in court, keeping the controversy in the public eye.
