Lucas da Silva Santos, a 19-year-old resident of São Bernardo do Campo in the Greater São Paulo area, was hospitalized in critical condition after consuming a cassava cake allegedly poisoned with chumbinho, a toxic substance. The cassava cake was reportedly sent by his aunt, but police investigations have identified Lucas's stepfather, Admilson Ferreira dos Santos, as the primary suspect in the attempted poisoning. Authorities believe the act was motivated by a personal conflict, describing it as a crime of passion. The stepfather reportedly requested the cassava cakes and is accused of intentionally poisoning Lucas. Following the investigation, the police requested the stepfather's arrest, which was initially denied by the judiciary. However, a preventive detention order was later issued, and the stepfather was subsequently arrested. Medical staff at the Hospital de Urgência de São Bernardo do Campo have begun evaluating Lucas for potential neurological damage after discontinuing sedation. The case remains under police investigation as an attempted homicide.
