A Parker County grand jury has indicted Pamela Jean Stanley, a 63-year-old resident of Coleman, Texas, on three felony counts after investigators said she plotted to murder her ex-husband by mailing him chocolates laced with fentanyl. The indictment, returned on 10 July, charges Stanley with criminal solicitation with intent to commit murder, criminal attempt to commit murder and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. According to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office, Stanley told an acquaintance—unaware the conversation was being recorded—that she intended to inject powdered fentanyl into a box of high-end chocolates and ship them as a congratulatory engagement gift from a fictitious travel agency. The package was to include a ‘honeymoon incentive’ offer aimed at lowering suspicion from the intended victim, Jeff Kauth. Deputies intercepted the scheme during an undercover operation on 30 May in the parking lot of the Scottish Inn Motel off Interstate 20 in Weatherford. After an investigator posing as a supplier handed Stanley a bag containing what she believed was fentanyl, officers arrested her and recovered roughly 9.5 grams of methamphetamine from her vehicle. Her bond is set at $450,000, and she remains in the Parker County jail. Court records show a pre-trial hearing scheduled for 12 Aug. and a jury trial set for 20 Oct. Kauth, who divorced Stanley in 2019 and recently became engaged, told local media he is relieved authorities disrupted the plot and that he ‘probably would have eaten’ the chocolates had they arrived.
